Fill the reservoir, close it fully, turn it upside down briefly, and check for leaks before it goes into the sleeve.

Route the tube through the designated port instead of forcing it through a zipper opening. A proper port prevents pinching and lets the zipper close cleanly around your gear. Run the tube over the shoulder strap where it is easy to reach but not loose enough to snag on brush, door handles, seat belts, or other equipment.

If your reservoir has a shutoff valve, close it before throwing the pack into a vehicle or storing it. That extra step can prevent a surprise leak. For long days in the heat, insulate the tube or keep it out of direct sun when possible. Warm water is still water, but it is harder to drink consistently when it feels like it came from a radiator.

Water alone may not be enough for long periods of sweating and exertion. Depending on duration, heat, diet, and workload, electrolytes can be useful. That does not mean every reservoir needs a powdered mix. Some mixes leave residue, affect taste, and require more thorough cleaning. Many users keep plain water in the bladder and carry electrolytes separately for better control.

Clean the reservoir after use, especially if you add anything other than water. Empty it, rinse it thoroughly, and allow it to dry completely before storage. A hydration system is only dependable when it is clean, leak-free, and ready to fill when the next call, shift, trail, or training day starts.
